Le <servers /> credentials provided by the credentials plugin integration are correctly injected in a settings file for the Maven build as described, but not in the settings file generated for the environment variable.

The <servers /> part is missing in this last generated file.

The last version (2.7.1 at the time of the writing) contains this bug.
