Builds on slaves of matrix projects do not respect the system configuration of default maven version. It is unclear how the slave decides which version of maven to use but it appears to be just whatever version happens to be on the path. In our case our build uses many plugins which depend on recent versions of maven so the random old version doesn't work properly.
