It would be helpful to show several most used examples of branch specifier regular expressions in help section. By 'most used examples' I mean those that people already asked how to write (e.g. see comments in https://github.com/jenkinsci/git-plugin/pull/138).

Users could simply copy-paste shown examples as a starting point and then adjust to their own specific case.
